My name is Avery Allman, and I am excited and eager to work as the new Marketing and Development Intern at ICC this summer. I currently study Business and Spanish language and literature at Kalamazoo College and am leaving this August to spend the first six months of my junior year in Quito, Ecuador. This year at school I highly enjoyed my role as a peer leader for the incoming students and hope to fill that position again when I enter my senior year. Aside from school, I enjoy walking my dog, reading, learning new cooking recipes, and traveling.
I feel very blessed to be part of a powerful team at ICC whose work impacts the lives of people so many miles away. During my senior year of high school I had the opportunity to travel to the Dominican Republic and witness the economic state of the country. That trip impacted me in many ways and I decided be more involved in my own community when coming to Kalamazoo. Throughout my college career, I volunteered as a literacy tutor and head coach for a Girls on the Run team at Woodward Elementary School. By acting as both a tutor and coach, I was able to watch as students overcame educational and physical barriers. ICC stood out to me because of their vision of empowered communities with improved health and wholeness. I hope to help promote their mission, and I am very honored to have this learning opportunity at such an impactful organization.
