ICC USA and GCH Recognizes International Nurses Day

Today, on International Nurses Day, ICC honors the Grace Children’s Hospital nurses for their valuable, tireless, patient- and family-centered care work. This occasion, celebrated on the anniversary of the birth of the founder of modern nursing, Florence Nightingale, recognizes and appreciates the selfless work of these nurses and others around the world. Nurses are at the frontline of healthcare and their importance can not be emphasized enough.

To commemorate this special occasion, the ICC USA and GCH Education Committee reflected on the impact of the GCH nurses.

Dr. Ellen Palmer has observed the GCH direct health care providers for over 40 years.  She shared, “They are always competent, efficient and compassionate when caring for ill children and their families.”

Dr. Mary Gilliland comments, “It is an honor to work with the special nurses at Grace Children’s Hospital.  The interest shown in learning new practice methods to enhance the care of their patients is inspirational.  Their ability to overcome the most difficult challenges to meet the needs of the community is admirable.”

Dr. Stephanie Woods contends that “Nurses have been the backbone of the response to COVID-19 this past year. They delivered care with PPE shortages, changing COVID guidelines, and without a vaccination to protect themselves.  This is praiseworthy.”

Jocelyne Arnoux, the Director of Nursing at Grace Children’s Hospital, “I join the nurses of Haiti, especially the ones of GCH to wish you a Happy International Nurses Day and to thank you for everything!”

The GCH nurses are a vital part of the healthcare system in Haiti. They have ensured the well-being of their patients and partner with the doctors at GCH to administer medical care. They provide nursing care and monitor the patients’ responses as they regain their health. The nurses advocate for their patients and make them feel secure in a hospital environment. Because of this, nurses have become some of the most trusted professionals around the world.

The nurses at GCH are in part able to provide such high-quality care thanks to the support of ICC. To support nurses at GCH on International Nurses Day,  give here.
